From Jordan to Greece via Egypt, we bring you a new itinerary combining history and archaeology.

Over 8 days, Le Lyrial will take you to legendary places between the Red Sea and the Mediterranean.

From Aqaba in Jordan, you will cross the famous Suez Canal, which was built by Ferdinand de Lesseps and widened recently to facilitate trade.

The crossing will enable you to reach Egypt and the shores of Alexandria. This legendary city has fascinated visitors since it was founded 2,300 years ago by Alexander the Great, who gave it his name.

Today, it is Egypt’s most cosmopolitan city and its second largest in terms of population size. Although its mythical lighthouse and ancient library are now just distant memories, Alexandria is home to many unusual sights such as its old town, its museums, Diocletian’s column (Pompey’s Pillar), and its necropolises.

Le Lyrial will then take you to Rhodes, whose old medieval town, built by the Knights of St John, is surrounded by ramparts. It is the largest of the Dodecanese islands and, like Alexandria, it was once home to one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World: its famous Colossus.

We will then head back to the coast, to the charming town of Nafplio, the departure point for visiting the famous Epidaurus Theatre and the Mycenae site, listed as World Heritage by UNESCO.

Highlights

• From Jordan to Greece via Egypt, take a deep-dive into history and discover wonderful archaeological sites;

• A cruise run in partnership with MuCEM, the Museum of the Civilisations of Europe and the Mediterranean in Marseille;

• UNESCO World Heritage Sites: the gothic and medieval city of Rhodes, the Mycenae ruins and the Epidaurus theatre (from Napflio), the Acropolis in Athens (disembarkation port);

• Sailing in the Red Sea and crossing the Suez Canal;

• A new port of call: Alexandria, a mythical port since Antiquity.

With its particularly agreeable climate, the island of Rhodes invites you to walk its pathways and discover its immaculate villages and sumptuous medieval city, a UNESCO World Heritage site. At the centre of the island the mountains are covered in forest and on the western slopes we find vineyards and crops. Rhodes also owes much of its charm and its character to the Knights of St John who reigned over the island from 1310 to 1522 and built impressive defensive walls punctuated with majestic gateways. Do not miss this delightful island with its peaceful beaches, its large walkways and its lively nightlife, perpetuating the myth of the famous Colossus, the legendary statue that is one of the Seven Wonders of the World.
Patmos is one of the legendary must-see islands in the Dodecanese. This is where Saint John resided, presumed author of the last book in the Bible. The cave of the Apocalypse and the Saint-John-the-Theologian Monastery are dedicated to him. These sites, which are listed by UNESCO as World Heritage, are located at the top of a hillside planted with vines and orchards. On the shore, the crystalline coves of Kambos and Lampi offer absolutely gorgeous swimming areas. You’ll be drawn to the bustle in Skala harbour and its taverns, famous for their fish soup and tiropita, which is a type of pasty filled with fresh Patmos cheese.
The engaging town of Nafplio is staggered up green hillsides of the Argolic Gulf, to the east of the Peloponnese. Don’t be surprised by its extremely varied cultural heritage. For instance, you’ll see the ancient agora on the plateau of Akronafplia, Italianate arcades in Syntagma square as well as the baroque fortress of Palamidi on a hillside of the same name. At the top of the hill, views of the gulf and the surrounding mountains are simply awesome. If you want to chill out by the water’s edge, walk along the Arvanitia promenade to a beautiful creek in the shade of cedars and cypresses.
The Greek capital city is located on the edge of the Saronic gulf, in the east of the country. It bears a plural name in reference to the first villages that surround the Acropolis. You will be enchanted by the rocky plateau presided by its monuments listed as UNESCO World Heritage. In the city below, you can visit some of the liveliest districts in Athens: Plaka, with its maze of colourful streets, and where, in the evenings the drifting aroma of moussaka and garlic prawns will tickle your taste buds. Don’t miss anything of the city’s cultural past. Pay a visit to the National Archaeological museum, or the Cycladic Art Museum.

Le Lyrial

Vessel Type: Luxury Small Ship

Length: 142 metres

Passenger Capacity: 224

Launched: 2015

A sleek silhouette, a welcoming intimate atmosphere, discover aboard this new ship the philosophy that has made our sisterships such a success: the spirit of Yacht Cruises.

Sailing under the French flag, this magnificent yacht of only 122 staterooms and Suites, with balconies, will join our fleet in April 2015. You will be enchanted by the contemporary decor inspired by the our destinations and the blue light of the Vega star in the Lyra constellation. The result is a subtle variation around a palette of blues, ranging from the  luminous delicate grey-blue of the Polar ice to splashes of the vivid turquoise blue found in  Mediterranean coves

A refined ambiance is enhanced by the quality of the workmanship and materials: white Corian counters in the lobby contrast with the warmth of leather to recall a boat’s hull, while the central sculpture of enamelled pieces takes its inspiration from the sea. In the loungebar, the carpet picks up a tennis stripe theme symbolising a certain idea of cruising, one synonymous with French elegance and a chic seaside spirit.
